Nigel Pascoe.

Apparently Nigel was given 4 days notice for his draft to Kirkliston! He arrived in June 1970 but sadly died in a diving accident in December of that year. His girlfriend, Shirley sent these details and photographs of Nigel. She never saw him again and didn't get to hear of the accident until the day after the funeral. Nigel was just one of the divers that were working in pairs on a night attack exercise in the islands north of Hong Kong. Icy (Colin) Caldwell and Nigel were working together and they were using experimental flares. Both Icy and Nigel did not turn up at the expected time.

"It must of been a good 20-30 minutes before we found them. The flare had failed. Nigel had convulsed on oxygen and died. Icy brought Nigel back to the surface and tried to resuscitate him until we eventually found them. There was no moon and it was a pitch black night and must have been a very frightening experience. Sadly, despite all our efforts Nigel could not be resuscitated onboard.

This experience never stopped Icy from being the professional diver and I was always happy when buddied up to him."

John Lang,
First Lieutenant

Nigel was a keen boxer and had boxed for the Royal Navy.
