Wave
Algerine Class Minesweeper (850
tons) Lobnitz, Renfrew
On Tuesday 30th September 1952 HMS
Wave dropped her hook in St Ives Bay to shelter from the storm.
Unfortunately her anchor cable snapped, leaving her to drift onto
the beach and rocks just outside the harbour, where she was holed.
Thirty two officers and men remained onboard whilst sixty two were
taken off by breeches buoy, just east of the lifeboat station. HMS
Wave was later towed by tug to Devonport dockyard for repairs. |
