SOME USELESS INFORMATION Up to the 1st July 1966,
the ship has steamed 70,393 miles during this commission spending 4,769
hours underway – or we could have spent 7 months 2˝
days continuous steaming at 14.8 knots, which would mean we could have
gone around the Isle of Wight 1100 times.
During the
months of May and June we steamed 16,374 miles, which is a record for
the ship during this period.
Since
leaving the UK in February we have spent 70 days at sea already.
Since the
conversion of the ship it has travelled just over the distance between
the earth and the moon.
For every
mile the ship has gone this commission a tot of rum has been issued,
where did your tot get you to?
The weight
of HMS Lion has been eaten in potatoes this commission.
Seven miles
of sausages and 137,100 eggs have been seen off since commissioning.
Seven
hundred and sixty three blocks of Kai have been consumed.
Two
thousand two hundred and eighty cups and glasses have been issued this
commission – 10 per person, - perhaps someone will let us into the
secret one day.
This
commission we have done 101 RAS’s so far, 7 astern fuelling, 64 abeam
fuelling, the remainder being jackstays.
Doesn’t this make you all feel you ought to sign on!! |
